Wow! It has been almost a month since my last post... Sorry :-) We have been very busy with............. life! The kids are doing pretty well in school, I had conferences a couple weeks ago for all of them. Surprise, surprise, #2 son is performing very well academically, but not so hot socially...his teacher brought up the fact that he seems very easily distracted. I told him that his doctor was thinking he had ADHD and was going to be sending paperwork for him to fill out. Now, the doctor has received the paperwork back and is reviewing it, and will be calling me to schedule an appointment to discuss the results. FINALLY we are getting somewhere.
Mr. Man continues working like a burro, (and I am, too) to feed the kids and keep the bills paid, but it seems that every month we have to dip a little more into our savings account... Depressing. I did find out, however, that I am going to be getting a small raise at work, which was unexpected, so that is a blessing. My next paycheck should be a little bigger. We are not working overtime currently, so we'll see how that one plays out. I am still searching for a different job, that entails not having to work overnights, but nothing has come up yet.
I hurt my hand at work a couple weeks ago, hitting it on a part of the machine...It swelled up and was pretty painful, so after deciding that it wasn't going to get better on its own, I went to the doctor. That resulted in me not being able to use my index and middle fingers on my right hand for anything for the last two weeks... they are taped together and straight... Went back today for a recheck, and it's NOT better. Dr. sent me for an X-Ray, and said that it looked ok, but that he was going to have the radiologist look at it closer. Now I have to spend 3 more weeks with the splint. I get by, but it makes most things more difficult...I am right handed and not having the full use of my right hand makes me thankful that I NORMALLY am able to use all of my body parts without much difficulty.
I learned how to make flour tortillas... Mr. Man is ECSTATIC!!! They don't turn out perfect, but they're getting there. Kneading the dough is a trick with only one good hand, though, so I have become rather creative. Does anyone know why no matter how thin I roll them out, when I put them on the stove, they shrink back up and become thicker? Any suggestions are welcome.
#1 son has been doing really well with his new meds, and I can definitely see a difference between weekdays when he takes them and weekends when he does not...I just can't bring myself to medicate him more than is absolutely needed, but then the behaviors begin and he turns into a taller version of #2 son... I think this coming weekend we are going to try giving him his meds and see if the behavior issues go away...Maybe we will have to medicate him every day... Any thoughts?
Mr. Man was diagnosed with Thalassemia... I thought this was something only people form Middle Eastern descent could get, but apparently not. He is only a "carrier" which means that he only has one gene for it, but we need to go through genetic counseling before we have any children to make sure that I am not also a carrier. If I am, then our children would have a 1 in 4 chance of being very very ill... BUT at the same time, they would have a 3 in 4 chance of being perfectly fine. We plan to have my tubal reversal done with the money we get back from income taxes this coming year, so maybe by next Christmas we will be close to welcoming a new bundle of joy... We are praying hard for God to bless us, and will continue to do so.
Sending lots of love from our house to yours, and I will update more when I am actually able to type properly...
Sorry to hear about your hand. I hope it is doing better.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I do not have much tortilla advice. I tried doing the homemade tortillas for a while. I used a tortilla press and mine did the same. Shrank back up. Not sure what causes this. I do know that when I went to Mexico and watched his mom and sisters make tortillas, they added a little bit of manteca (lard) and it made all the difference in the world as far as taste goes. I had never eaten a tortilla so freakin' good! I'm not sure if the manteca added to it makes any difference or not.
