Yep, Palomina is still alive!

Whew, what a summer!  I just logged in after a LOOOOOONG time away, and realized that I haven't posted anything since March!  Bad, Bad Palomina!

I am now fully recovered from my TR (tubal ligation reversal) surgery, and we have been TTC for a litle over 6 months now, with no luck :-(  I had my yearly physical, and mentioned this to my OB/GYN, who promptly scheduled me for a HSG to check to see if the surgery had worked...  Well, it worked halfway.  My left tube is completely blocked, and my right was kinda scarred over, but it opened up with the dye...  We have a lot better chances now, and hopefully we will have a bun in the oven very soon.

I am also no longer working nights at the factory.  I asked to be transferred to the day shift, but was told that there is no transferring between shifts allowed, so I started a new job today with an agency that processes a whole bunch of assistance programs to help low income families.  8-4 Monday through Friday...yes please!  My first day went very well.  I think I am going to like my new job.

I will not wait so long between updates next time... I will have a lot more time on my hands now that I am not working all night and trying to sleep all day :-P

I would appreciate your prayers for us on the TTC issue... we need all the help we can get.

Vacation Update!!!

It is SO good to be home :-)  I needed a vacation from my vacation!  Our trip went very well, without any major problems.  Mr. Man and I are now officialy TTC, and having a great time ;-)

Snugglebug and I set off on our journey on Friday, February 24th. We crossed the border at 9am on Sunday, February 26th.  We could have crossed earlier, but I set my GPS to arrive at 8am, so that we would cross in daylight.  When we got close, we stopped and I slept a couple of hours so we wouldn't be running around in Nogales while it was dark outside.  My brother- and sister-in-law were there waiting for us when we crossed and we set off right away for Ciudad Obregon so that we would be there before dark.  We got to the famous KM21 where we had to get our visas and a permit for Big Bird (our truck) and thought everything would be fine, but they wouldn't accept the copy of the title that we had.  Mr. Man and I thought it would be easier if the truck was in both our names, instead of just his, so we transferred it and have not yet received the new title.  This means we only had the copy of the transferred title, and not an original.  Everything was OK, though, because they said that as long as I had my marriage certificate, they would let us use the registration which was only in Mr. Man's name.  Back to the parking lot I went to get the registration out of the glove box.  Lo and behold, the registration was expired, and Mr Man, while trying to be helpful and clean the "unnecessary" stuff out of the truck before we left, had taken the new one out of the glove box.  About 4 hours and a lot of international phone calls later, we decided to take our chances that farther on, where the "free zone" ended and we actually needed the permit, we would be able to get it.  In Empalme, Sonora, there is another spot where you can get the permit, and we hoped we would get a sympathetic ear.

Around 4pm we pulled into Empalme, and with a lot of luck, and yours truly engaging the agents in conversation so that they didn't have time to pay much attention to what they were doing, we walked out with the permit and hit the road again.  We got to my in-laws house at around 630 Sunday night.  The next day we set right out to do sightseeing and visiting.  There are SO many members of Mr. Man's family that came to meet us, and it was a little overwhelming, to say the least!  We went to eat cocos at the laguna, went to this cliff where there is a beautiful painting of La Virgen, and a huge altar to her...we also went to the church near the house where they have a very large San Judas Tadeo.  The next day, we went to Mass and went to the clinic where the doc sent me for some pre-op testing and gave me the note I would need to admit myself on Thursday the 1st for my tubal ligation reversal.  We explored downtown Ciudad Obregon for a while, and then hung around the house.  Wednesday I spent getting ready for my surgery on Thursday, going for the preop blood tests and picking up the results.  Then I had to take the results back to the doctor and make sure everything looked good for surgery the following day.  It was a GO!!!  Went home to eat my light supper and prepare myself mentally for the next day.  I went to Mass Wednesday night, too.

I will tell you guys later about my surgery and recovery, but that right there was pretty much the extent of my sightseeing in Obregon.  I did a couple of things after surgery, too, and will get to them in the next post.  Take care all!!!

Palomina is headed to Mexico!!!!!

We are packing for a road trip!!!  SnuggleBug, me, and Big Bird (the truck) are headed south on Friday for a couple weeks of R & R with the in-laws!  I will be having tubal ligation reversal surgery while I am there, as well as picking up Mr. Man's new bajo quinto (a Mexican guitar with 10 strings used in Norteno music).  I hear that the malandros (bad people) are stealing dark colored SUV's... I hope none of them take a liking to a big yellow pickup truck :-)

I have been back to work now for 3 weeks after being laid off for 8.  It is going okay, but I still hate the night shift.  Ya give a little, ya take a little I guess.  Hope everything is going fine in your worlds, we are doing great here!  I am sorry it has taken me so long to post, but life keeps getting in the way :-P

Palomina's Holidays

Wow!  Back to normal!

Just thought I would pop in and let you know how our lives have been going since the last time I posted.  I have been off work since December 11th, and really don't want to go back :-)  It is so relaxing and wonderful to be at home, and I absolutely love being able to go to sleep at night with my husband and waking up with him by my side in the morning.

The kids are being difficult, but it is much easier to handle when I have enough sleep.  I don't know if I told you, but Son #2 has now been diagnosed with ADHD and ODD as well.  We had a scare a couple of weeks ago, he came home from school and told me that his vision suddenly went blurry while he was in class, and it hadn't gotten any better through the rest of the day.  He was unable to read, and had a headache from squinting.  I called the doctor and the eye doctor, and was told to take him in to the clinic immediately to Urgent Care.  They did an exam, and his lymph nodes in his neck were HUGE!  The doc did a blood test, and thought he would throw in a Strep test, just because it is going around.  Turns out the #2 Son has both Strep AND Mono!  The doc thought his blurry vision was just due to him not feeling well.  He got an antibiotic for the strep, and about 10 days later his vision was better.

Christmas Eve we had Mass, and it went well.  We had a posada, then mass, and then we had a little get together.  It was beautiful!  After mass, we came home and picked up the presents we had for the stepkids, and off to their house we all went.  The stepkids' grandma got it in her head that she wanted a "family photo" so somewhere out there is a pic of me, Mr. Man, the Ex, HoneyGirl, LittleMan, their little sister, and all 3 of my kids.  Talk about awkward!!!  Then we came home and had our family dinner and the kids opened their presents.  By that time, the cold that I had been fighting finally won the battle, and I woke up on Christmas morning absolutely miserable.  Mr. Man had the same cold, and he had to work, so me and the kiddos went to my dad's house for a little while, but I felt like crap so we came back home.

New Year's was fun...we bought some tequila and I had margaritas...we had a kind of pot luck with the neighbors, and ended up having tacos de lengua, tamales, turkey, mashed potatoes, AND menudo!  We had music and tons of fun.  We watched the ball fall, and I got a New Year's kiss for the first time in my life!!!  (New Year's in years past had been spent alone at home with the kids while the Ex was out partying.)  Now, life is back to normal, the 3 Kings have come and gone, and the tree is no longer hogging a quarter of my living room.  I am sad to see the holidays go, but grateful for the quality family time we shared!

School started for me on January 3rd, so I have a week under my belt.  There is a LOT of work in this class, and it has just started.  God help me!  I go back to work on February 5th, so I still have almost 4 weeks of "vacation" left, but I am sad to be counting down the days.  I am still hoping to get a quick trip to Mexico in before I go back, but that may not happen.

I hope you and your families had a wonderful Christmas and New Year's, and I wish you all happiness and health in 2012!  God Bless!!!!!

Palomina's headed back to school!

I have made some important decisions in the last few weeks!  As I am going to be laid off from work for 8 weeks, I found myself trying to figure out some way to make my time at home as productive as possible.  I have just completed my enrollment into University of Phoenix Online's "Bachelor of Science in Communication with a Concentration in Culture & Communication" degree!  Hopefully this will take me somewhere interesting!  Mr. Man is 100% supportive and almost as excited as I am!

This will also give me some access to student loan money, which will allow us to move forward with me getting my Tubal Ligation Reversal...The loan money will help with the bills and allow us to save for the surgery.  I am strongly contemplating using a doctor in Mexico who I have heard wonderful things about to have the surgery done, as it is about 1/3 of the price of having it done here in the US.  Not entirely decided on this one, though.

Not much else has changed, though #2 Son has now been formally diagnosed with ADHD and ODD, and has been put on a small dose of Ritalin to see if that helps him at all... So far, he reports that it is TONS easier to concentrate in school, but his home behaviors are not improving.  The boys are both very defiant and refuse any of the parenting styles I have tried with them... Nothing to do but keep trying!

Just for Fun

I am becoming more comfortable with this whole blogging thing, so I am going to join in on one of the questionnaires that are floating around some of the blogs that I follow... Here goes:

What was the first thing I noticed of my husband's when I met him?  His eyes, his smile, and his UGLY hat!!!

Where would I like to go on a honeymoon?  Hmmm... I LOVE travelling to Mexico, so I would have to say to one of the "touristy" places, like Acapulco or Cancun...  But I would also like to go on a cruise or touring in Europe..

Do I consider myself an adventurous person?  Yep... I'll try almost anything ONCE... Got me into a bit of trouble in my younger days LOL but now it's nice to have an open mind and be receptive to new opportunities!

Beach or pool?  Beach, but a pool will work in the middle of a long Minnesota winter LOL!

Do you have a secret you've never shared with anybody?  Yes.

Summer or Winter?  Summer!!! I am one of the few Minnesotans who is allowed to complain about the cold because I don't complain about the heat in the summer!  I hate the cold, and every year, I threaten to move before the next winter, but haven't gotten around to it yet!

Kisses or hugs?  Hugs... and kisses... but hugs are sooooooooo nice.

Sweet or salty?  Sweet

Strawberry or Chocolate?  Depends on my mood... Probably more often strawberry.

Black or White?  White

Favorite Color?  Pink

Favorite table game?  Does Cribbage count?  If not, then I pick Backgammon

What's your favorite drink?  Coke from Mexico

What's your favorite alcoholic beverage?  I don't drink much anymore... but I do love Cherry Bombs (Dr. McGillicuddy's Cherry Schnapps mixed with Red Bull)

What is your favorite movie?  Has always been, and will always be Dirty Dancing!!

Your favorite month?  June

What's the first thing you think about when you wake up?  WHAT the HELL!!!  (I work nights and sleep days, but it is still a bit disorienting to wake up from a "night" of sleep at 3 in the afternoon!)

Would you forgive infidelity on the part of your spouse?  No...Not anymore.  BTDT... Not with Mr. Man, though.  I trust Mr. Man COMPLETELY... My Ex cheated.  I tried to get past the first one and give it another shot... He did it again, I kicked him to the curb.

How many rings before you answer the phone?  Depends... am I sleeping or not?  If I am awake, and I don't have to hunt for the phone, I answer it right away.

Do you know how to keep secrets?  Yep

Do you consider yourself an introvert or an extrovert?  I am shy around people I don't know, but after I get to know them, then I let loose.

Do you tell your honest age?  Yes, most of the time... and the occasions I don't, it's strictly because I miscalculated in my head.  Is it normal to have to figure your age in your head when you are asked? If Mr. Man is around, I just ask him!

What's under your bed?  Socks, underwear, papers, books, pens, pencils, toys.... (before you jump to conclusions, we have a Captain's type bed, with drawers underneath... all that stuff is in the drawers.)

Have you ever missed school or work due to the weather?  Yep!  I live in Minnesota... Kids PRAY for snow days!  Now that I am older, I hate driving in snow and ice, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do!

How long have you had this blog?  It has only been about 2 months.

Wow, I have never played with colors on here before...that's a lot of clicking!  Have a great day!!!!!

Happy, Happy Birthday, Baby!!!!

Yesterday was Mr. Man's 34th birthday.  He had every intention of passing it off as "just another day" but NO I wasn't going to let that happen.  My hubby busts his ass 6 days a week, and all for US.  I firmly believe that his birthday should be special.  SO... I surprised him.  I went to work Wednesday night at 11 pm, Hubs got home at 12:30 am, and went back to work at 4am.  I got home at 7am and got the kids up and out the door to school.  (Thank God the neighbor lady keeps an eye on them for us when our schedules get a little wacky!)  I had already asked for Thursday night off, because I had vacation time, so I knew I didn't have to work last night.

He got home from work at 5:30, was very happy that I had supper almost ready, and hopped in the shower, when he got done, we ate supper and sat down on the couch to watch TV.  By this time, I had been up for 26 hours and was getting pretty tired, but I had to stay awake for his surprise at 7.  Hubs fell asleep snuggled up next to me on the couch, so I let him sleep a little bit.  At 7, I had planned a video chat with his parents from Mexico... He hasn't seen them in 11 years, except for the occasional photo, so a video chat is a BIG deal!

It was PERFECT!!!!! Hubs woke up to see his mom on my computer screen and his dad and his sisters and nieces were there with party hats and noisemakers and a cake, so I got up quietly and went and lit all the candles on the cake that i had hiding in the oven and brought it to him... I thought he was going to cry!!!!! He blew out the candles and we all had cake together, though thousands of miles apart.  We ended up chatting with them for almost 3 hours, and hubby sang them a few songs and they sang him Happy birthday and danced and had a great time.  I was so happy to see him happy!

I had bought him a little present, though I knew it wasn't what he REALLY wanted...He wanted an iPod Touch... I don't have the money for it until I get paid... so he had to settle for one of those little aluminum wallet things...he has been fascinated by them ever since he saw them on TV, so now he has one of his very own.  I told him that we would buy his iPod next week if we had enough money.  He said he was OK with waiting for Christmas...  But that what made him happiest was that I didn't just let his birthday go by and be forgotten... and thanked me so many times for including the rest of his family...

In elementary school, we learned about our feelings in the form of "warm fuzzies" and "cold pricklies".  Last night was definitely a "warm fuzzy" kind of night!!!!!!!!!
